We league play at Ashley Lanes once a week as a couple, once a week as singles. The staff is always helpful to us with any questions. The equipment is not the newest, but serviceable. The snack bar food is actually quite good! We bring visitors there for fun bowling and usually get a snack or lunch there.

To PinSlayer, please read the first 4 or so lines of my last post.It should help ;ihope anyway to let you know what to expect as far as lane condition ,ball speed etc.Synthetic lanes are on the FAST side so don't be surprised when the ball takes off really early.Tone ball speed down to give ball a chance to grip the lane so you can get a better idea for how the lane is behaving and you'lll have a better idea of what to do, where to move etc.It took me a good 3 games and most of the 4th to get set up,as far as speed ,direction etc.I was shooting high 180s-low 200s,[204-212s}.I hope this helps.Good luck to you. We're all bowlers here to help each other out Please post and let me know how you did,Iwas on lanes 1/2and 2 was the better at first;after about 6th frame of game3 lane 1 started showing signs of promise;it was finishing high until I got speed down then it started to behave and get me where I needed to be,1-2pocket.As you read this you'll see that I'm left handed.Maybe we can bowl together some time.Sorry it's so long;just trying to give you an idea of what I experienced so you'll have some idea of how to plan your game.I went in early afternoon, between 1;30-2;00so the lanes were getting on the dry side, hooking earlier and finishing higher so I moved outsidethrowing deeper and longer into the lane to take out some of the hook at least.Got to go,again good luck in tournamentThe people who work there are really nice;it's family owned from what they tell me.

IT is a family owned center with 24 synthetic lanes{Brunswick},AS-80 scoring,Brunswick A2 pinspotters, small but neat snack bar,pro shop ,and lounge. It is a white brick building with aqua-green trim.It is on Sam Rittenberg Blvd.,consult Yellow pages to confirm exact building#,To get there, take I-26east to Cosgrove AVe. exit 219A you can't miss the sign. You 'll come over a blue bridge crossing the Ashley River.Keep going straight .You will come to a fork in the road;you will see Exxon ,Mercury Ford , Piggly Wiggly;stay on the right side of the fork and keep goingstraight. You'll see a subdivision on the right w/a fence in front of it.The sign is at the edge of the road. there's a tree buffer about 100yars long.its just after the trees.Across from it is a convenience store, shopping plaza.separated by a road going back to more houses.Sam Rittenberg Blvd.is located in an area of N.Charleston known as West Ashley,I almost forgot to put that in . I hope this helps you, sorry it was so long wasn't sure you knew where it was. When you come off the bridge it.s a good 8miles or so.

I was just wondering how big of a house this bowling center is, because i'm bowling in state there in a couple of months, and i kinda want to get an idea of what i'm looking at! thanks, starmax employee

I have bowled there a few times and usually do fairly well,189-200s,on low side however it does take a couple of games to get speed where i want ,and line to pocket,1-2 as i'm left handed. I usually bowl on wood lanes so my ball speed is a litttle slower:the ball bites into the lane so it can shift its weight and turn towards the pocket,1-2.I have a sanded duller surface ball which requires heavier oil in front {20-24 '}into the lane.It is a higher rev.rate ball,an Ebonite Tornado TPS.Anyway, the staff are friendly and courteous and the help me work the scoring monitors, the center I bowl in has AMF AccuScore,AShley lanes has Brunswick AS-80s .I havent been to lounge so I can,t rate that the snack bar is small but organized, the rates are fair, around $2.00-$2.20/game during day call to confirm that's what i paid last time.As far as cleanliness,it is consistent with health standards required by law, bathrooms are a bit dated, could use new up to date fixtures;toilet ,sink, fresh paint lighting etc. Also fresh paint, new up to date wallpaper what's on there now has seen a better day.THe outside of the building is a bright sea-greencolor {trim}with the actual building itself a bright white making it easy to see a couple of blocks away and eye appealing as well.Service is decent and lane calls are addressed immediately ,ball returns, machine problems { dropping /missing pins etc.}every center has them. This is a family owned and run establishment ,24 lane center church groups come here alot so please conduct yourself accordingly they and staff will appreciate it beyond measure and you will be welcomed to return. Overal;l I would definetly give this center business .THe owners and staff are decent church going people from what i gather talking to them casually ,so are most of their customers; they don't want to lose hard earned trust, customers to rowdy drunks etc . AGain enjoy your games but conduct yourself like a decent human being .not an animal that needs to be locked up. HAPPY HOLIDAYS and prosperous New Year.
