Bring, Mike, Scott and Lee back. At least they cared about the customers.

Took my family here for a fun afternoon of bowling on Sunday. The staff was rude. The music they were playing was not appropriate for kids. Songs with many bad words and even the F word being played. Songs about sex and about calling females B***chs. The lane we were on broke 4 times. We paid for an hour, but with the lane problems. Only was able to play about 35 min. I will not be going back.

New managerment again. closed,. they are letting league finsh. but closed for everything else. they have a hole in oneor two of the lanes,. don't bowl ther when it rains. maybe the new owners will fixed it.

Comment Date: 2/21/2012 Name: Management
New management took over Feb. 2010 and corrected the sticky lane issue. All leagues have received all prize funds since new management took over, can't speak for past management prior to 2/2010. House even gave monies toward the prize fund (Over $1k) last year to the leagues that qualified. Our league rate is $8. which is in line or cheaper than most houses around us.

Comment Date: 1/11/2012 Name: Anonymous
DON'T bowl there when it's raining or after you will fall., dont join a league if you want your price money to be there at the end of the league,. they are over priced,....

Comment Date: 4/9/2010 Name: GaffneyGurl
I love going to starmax to catch up with friends. We go almost every friday night. there have been a few fights, but none that are very serious. The bowling lanes are great! the only other bowling alley in gaffney is nothing compared to this one!

Comment Date: 4/2/2010 Name: just wondering
Have they reopened?

Comment Date: 3/31/2010 Name: SCMom
We LOVE Starmax! The bowling lanes are very nice! We had my son's birthday party up there last year and it was a blast!!! I've only ever been to one nicer bowling lane, and it is an upscale bowling lane in charlotte! that's a lot to say, especially with it being here in Gaffney! The only negative thing I have to say is that I won't take my kids up there on a weekend evening, WAY too many kids/teens hanging out. STARMAX is NOT A DAYCARE FACILITY PEOPLE! Although if my husband and I have a movie date night, there is always several Gaffney PD there and I have never seen a fight or any obscene behavior take place. Overall a great place at affordable prices!!!

Are all of you that bored and truly pissed off that you had to post a comment about this. I mean seriously, your complaining about the most trivial subjects. Oh no i went to watch Harry Potter and it wasn't on, my life has no meaning ah. Get over yourself. Who made you queen of the world.

Comment Date: 12/17/2008 Name: Danielle
I love going to Starmax!!!!!!!!I might go this weekend!!!!!

Comment Date: 6/3/2008 Name: Anonymous
Being from out of the state, I called to find out exactly where you are located. The woman who answered was curt and just hung up on me after her "behind Outback" response. If I knew where Outback was, I probably would not need to be calling you to find out where you are located.

I would also like to add, that i very much enjoy working for this company, at this facaility and with the management and employees that work for it. As a customer I do believe you will not find a better facility that offers the entertainment that we offer, in this entire country. Mike (bartender, and customer)

after reading this last comment i would like to say that the starmax is very professionally ran. the management and staff are a lot more then this individual says they are. i guess that not only the staff but the city police and anybody associated with this company must be incompentent. keep up the good work people and do not let this very immature man have any reflection on the way you do your job.

I'm an area bowler who has been thinking of bowling at this center. I have been quite amused by the comments I have read here. I will try to get down there soon and I will report back a full, unbiased review. P.S. To those in Gaffney: if you see someone make a Black Widow Pearl do the most awesome skip/flip you've ever seen, stop by my lane and let me know you read my comments here.

It is a very nice place with excellent atmosphere. A great place for the entire family. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to have a fun time.

Starmx is a great place to bowl, The best within its region.

I like Starmax more every time I go. The counter staff is mostly attentive and friendly. I have my own shoes, but my Wife and Daughter rent, and they seem to have a good supply. Their house ball supply is adequate, and I like that they restrict lighter balls to only the kids. The facilities are clean and well lit, owing to the new-ness of the facility. The lanes are of good quality. The scoring system takes some getting used to as far as inputing your information, but I like the graphics and the fact that you can sneak a bit of a TV broadcast on the unused screens. I don't like that you can't initiate gutter-guards from the console-you have to see an attendant. Also, their pro-shop is coming along, and I understand that a drilling service is in the works. The place has been crowded the times I've been with bowlers waiting in line sometimes for a land. The cosmic bowling effects are a bit distracting compared to some I've seen, but I know fun is the name of the game on cosmic nights. I've been bowling twice there, and so far have not witnessed the sexual situations another writer commented on. I did witness on my last visit, the effects of alcohol on young men, with a fair amount of yelling from some of the population. I wouldn't mind seeing less alcohol near the lanes, but that's merely my opinion. As another writer pointed out, I like the presence of local law enforcement-family safety is very important. Just overhearing the officers gives you the sense that they are taking a proactive stance in providing a secure atmosphere. I would suggest this center to anyone looking for a good spot to bowl. It's next door to an outlet mall, which is a win-win for family members who might not like to bowl. All in all a good time.

personally, i believe that the stamrax of gaffney has the best bowling center in the area. brand new lanes, knowledgable staff, and a hip atmosphere that mixes the progressive attitudes with traditional entertainment.

I think Starmax is by far the best bowling center in South Carolina. I've never seen any sexual activities in the facility. There are always good security staffs including the Gaffney Police Dept. And even as a smoker myself, Starmaxs non-smoking facilty adds comfort to non-smokers to get that homely feeling. Great bar also, good clean atmosphere, and as far as unclean music goes, the jukebox is edited. Plus the customers play the music theirselves, so obviously want to hear it. The apollo music is stuff like radio disney and several other family musics.

I don't know what these people are talking about. I'm in Starmax bowling center every single weekend. I love the atmosphere. The employees are great. I've never seen sexual things inside. Starmax is great.

Comment Date: 8/15/2007 Name: PS:
Oh yes. The StarMax Gaffney Bowling Center has no control over the movie portion of the building. Different employees, different managers, different supervisors. So please reserve this comment section for BOWLING CENTER only.

To Ricky: The rules governing cell phones in our theaters is clearly displayed in front of you on the screen during pre-show advertisements: TURN OFF YOUR CELL PHONE. This means no talking, no texting. A camera phone powered on in a theater is a RECORDING DEVICE and is against FEDERAL LAW . . . you could have been arrested. It is just as annoying to sit in a theater and see lit up cell phone screens as it is to hear people murmuring into their phone. TURN OFF YOUR CELL PHONE! Not vibrate, not silent . . . OFF. This is not an attempt to be rude. This is the truth. You were asked politely to turn it off several times by employees before we sat down behind you. The rules apply to everyone. You blatantly disregarded them and that is why you were asked to leave. It doesn't matter that there were only a few people in the theater. How do we know you weren't recording audio or video with your phone? Rules are rules and EVERYONE has to follow them, no matter who they may think they are. It doesn't matter that you are "just texting". Your cellphone is still on and you were still disturbing others (namely me as I was sitting right behind you!). Is it not just as rude to disobey simple, clear instructions given to you for the enjoyment of ALL movie goers? To Carol: We have no control over the public displays of affection our customers choose to engage in. If you had a problem, you should have alerted the staff. I know it wasn't bowling center staff, as there is usually only one person working in the bowling center. If it were a man and a woman kissing would you have been so offended or would you have written it off as a couple of lovebirds enjoying themselves? That's discrimination, just like racisim, and is just as wrong. To Annonymous: "There are nasty, tasteless sexual activites going on"? Do we have strippers in the bar? Do we show pornographic movies? No, we do not. Please be a little more clear on these nasty, tasteless sexual activites. The employees aren't engaging in them . . . we're too busy working. We aren't "selling sex". If it's customers behavior you have a problem with, perhaps you should admonish the customers instead of us, as we have no control over the spontaneous actions of our customers. We immediately eject customers for such activities when we are aware of their occurance. However, if we are not standing there seeing it, we don't know it's happening (such as in a bathroom, etc.) . . . we can't see through walls or read minds. If you see something like this, alert management IMMEDIATELY, don't just stand there and watch it and then complain about it later. To Annonymous: Actually, you must have had the same problems with Carmike in Spartanuburg because I used to work there and our movie times were NEVER right. Our biggest complaints were about our movie times being wrong in the newspaper and on the internet and the fact we couldn't take interlink debit cards. While I'm not denying our theater manager's fault with the movie time problem, going to Carmike will not make you any happier with it's disgusting theaters and rude staff. And mistakes in advertising is not "false advertising", nor illegal. It's just a mistake. Prices change from time to time in business and you must pay the changed price or not receive your product. I can't go into a McDonalds and say, "Well, Happy Meals were only $0.99 when I was a kid and that's what I'm going to pay for it now". And sometimes, movie companies demand that we change our movie times at the last minute to comply with some movie company weirdness. We certainly can't call the Gaffney Ledger and have them re-run 100,000 copies of the newpaper and deliver them at 8:00pm because we have to change a movie time. And to everyone who may read this: Life is not perfect. You cannot always get what you want; you can't always have it your way. Sometimes people make mistakes. And if you can't follow the rules, you will be asked to leave.

No dout,I think they should issue condoms along with the large drink and pop-corn special or at least put them in the bathroom.

Comment Date: 8/5/2007 Name: Ricky
I would just like to comment about how rude the theater manager is. Two of my friends and I were told we had to leave because I was using my phone to send a text. There were only about fifteen people in the theater who were sitting in the front of the theater. Two of the starmax employees were sitting in the last row, behind me. My phone was on vibrate and I was not talking, but we were told to leave and the manager tells us to either not bring our phones or to watch a movie elsewhere.

personally, i like the place, but i get this unfriendly feeling when i am there. the bowling alley is nice, and so are the theatres but the customer service needs some work.

Comment Date: 7/28/2007 Name: Carol
I did not like seeing two men kissing in the bowling center. I will not take my kid back. We will go back to the home town center. we the staff will not let employs do that.

Comment Date: 7/27/2007 Name: Anonymous
They make you feel un-welcome and it is NOT a family atmosphere, meaning, there are nasty, tasteless sexual activities going on in front of customers.

Comment Date: 7/10/2007 Name: Anonymous
You false advertised. I went up there for Harry Potter pre-show, tonight. Well you weren't showing it. Even though you have several signed up stating that TUESDAY, JULY 10TH AT 12:05A.M., we would be able to see it. You have had this sign up for SEVERAL days and yet knowing that it was wrong, you still kept it up. I am very dissapointed, and I am not sure if i will return. It wasn't long before this, that i went up there and the prices had changed, but none of the signs said so. Then I had to pay for the changed price, instead of what was listed. Which is considered illegal, for you know false advertisment. Another time, the movie times were wrong, yet the phone times, and the newpaper times were the same. And i didn't find out about the time change till i got up there, and i was "late" for my movie, but the 30mins because of a time changed, that wasn't known to the phone or the newpaper. PLEASE, corret this. I would hate to have to travel to spartanburg for the movies, even though that does look very promising since i have never had a problem with them like i have here at starmax.

StarMax's bowling alley is VERY posh and well taken care of. The staff is very knowledgeable and nice. Their cosmic bowling is awesome! They have an awesome bar and the food is great. Very cool!
