Reno’s National Bowling Stadium will be open to the public for bowling from 12 p.m. until 9 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010. The facility is typically reserved for international bowling tournaments, and is closed to the public. The National Bowling Stadium in Reno is the only facility of its kind in the world dedicated to the sport of bowling. The National Bowling Stadium opened in 1995 and was dubbed the “Taj Mahal of Tenpins” by the Los Angeles Times. Cost: Admission is $15 per person ($10 presale tickets) and includes shoe rental and two bowling games. Why: This unique fundraiser will benefit the Reno Tahoe Choral Ambassadors (RTCA), three local choirs that plan to attend the World Choir Games in Shaoxing, China, in July 2010. Local choirs participating in the project include Bella Voce Women’s Ensemble, the Sierra Nevada Children’s Choir, and “Core Jazz” from McQueen High School. The RTCA will act as ambassadors to encourage choirs from countries worldwide to visit Reno in May 2011, when Reno Tahoe USA hosts the American International Choir Festival. This Festival is designed to attract several thousand singers and their families to Northern Nevada. When: Saturday, Jan. 30 from 12 p.m. until 9 p.m. Where: The National Bowling Stadium, 300 North Center Street, Reno, NV 89501-1129, (775) 335-8800 Parking: Parking is available in the National Bowling Stadium Parking Garage located at Center and 4th Streets in downtown Reno.

It's a beautiful facility. I've visited several times but my first trip to bowl there in a tournament is coming up in December. I can't wait! To those who are unhappy about the lack of "open play" bowling, the National Bowling Stadium isn't allowed to offer it. They have a non-compete agreement with the area's bowling centers. The NBS was built in large part to draw big tournaments (and the tourist dollars that come with them) from out of town, not to compete with local bowling centers for customers. The availablity of open play and league play for local bowlers at the NBS would have put the area's bowling centers out of business.

We have bowled the Storm Mixed tour. for 3 years. We really enjoy the spacishness of the house and comfort of the lane settings. Organization from sign in to lane assignments, stressfree. Conditon, maintance and appearance, impressive.

There technically is no open play there. Last year during the Reno Jr/adult tournament there was practice one day, and there were shoes there. I think it was something like $2.35 to play or something. Next Jr/adult tournament is this weekend Aug.3-5th. Secodn year for my son and I to bowl in it. I think the place is outstanding. Proshop is huge with the bowling Lane 81 in it. :)

Just bowled in the Open. What an awesome place! Very intimidating at first, but the tournament was a blast. Great facility, but showing its age, especially on the outside. Reno needs to spend a few bucks to update the place.
