|Even as a middle-aged guy, this is only my second season bowling total. You can't really compare a 16-lane old-style alley with a huge place like Sparetime. Champlain is definitely more setup for bowling, not a high-volume kids place or bar masquerading as a bowling lane. I like them both, for very different reasons.
Champlain is an old-style family-run place where it's quite enjoyable to bowl in the league. Everyone's pretty friendly there. It's actually a refreshing change since I bowl at Sparetime all the time myself. I think Sparetime is the better choice for family fun or a night out with food and drink, more the obvious choice due to their size and bar/grille.
If you're looking to work on your game, I'd choose Champlain. It's nice to have both, and I hope we have both for many years to come. We've already lost a couple of bowling establishments, so we should do all we can to support what's left in the area.|

|Last year the youth league at Champlain lanes was a disaster. They didn't oil the lanes, give kids proper recognition for achievements...even if their not impressive, maybe 6 kids out of an Eight lane league knew lane courtesy, a few good bowlers have dropped out of bowling there, they won't have any good fall leagues if they don't have future bowlers, they don't seperate five year olds that need bumpers from older kids. And the handicap is a joke. No shirts for pepsi tournament bowlers. A complete waste of time and money. I heard a kid still hasn't gotten a 700 plaque for a 720 he threw in November '09.parents I suggest you bring your kids to spare time in colchester for a great youth league.

|Zak Longe runs the pro shop and does the best job I've ever seen. Prices are great and he is very helpful. He's a great addition to an already great place like Champlain lanes.|

|They were great. I go bowling about once every five years, and am used to being tolerated as a college student and later as a teacher bringing students, but never embraced. We went as a family on a Saturday afternoon (we have two sons, ages 3 and 7). Everything from the shoes to the lanes were great. With electronic scoring we could focus on the kids (and they could follow the game), and the gutter guards even raised and lowered automatically when the kids bowled. The staff actually seemed to like kids and didn't freak at the crash of balls. Pizza is good and the arcade is a nice distraction. Oh, and the bowling is fun.|

|This is a great house to bowl in. Randy, one of the owners, is 110% dedicated to this business and each and every customer. I'm a league bowler and one who bowls on the weekends with my family -- this is definitely the best place for both. |

|I was back home on vacation for a week and was asked to sub one night. My buddies and I were sitting at the table eating when Mike came yelling at some guy for reading a bowling catalogue. I have no inside information, but Mike looked and sounded like a huge jerk. No reason to treat anyone like that. Especially if you're the owner.|

|Just came back from a great weekend here. I haven't been to this tournameny in about 12 years or so, and was immediately reminded of what a great event this is. This center is very clean, the staff very helpful and Mike is great (the lounge opens at 9am !!). The lane condition is very competative, everyone can hit the pocket but you've got to make adjustments to carry. Overall, this was a great experience and I can't wait to go back again next year!|

|When I went to Champlain lanes, my (and my friend's) balls got stuck in the back SO many times it was unbelievable. It slowed down the game, and it detracted from an otherwise decent bowling experience. Then there was a mixup with how the machines worked that the management couldn't figure out--we did--and we STILL got charged the full price!|

|This is bowler's bowling center where you enjoy yourself with the wonderful staff, and ownership is always there to help you with your needs. Very clean and family friendly center to spend a night out with your family.|
