On 6/6/2015. I arrived at your facility around 11 pm with my 2 children ages 17 and 19 and 6 cousins from Connecticut whom where between the ages of 17-18 years of age. When we arrived I was initially going to drop them off until the security officer sad that they all needed to have their parents with them. I informed them, I was not aware of this policy and that I was going in to be responsible for them. The security officer than responded in a disrespectable connotation and stated,” don’t you think its late for your kids to be out , take them home.” First of all , I think that was inappropriate and informed him of such. I also informed him I see multiple kids younger than the ones I was with running around the facility. He proceeded to get disrespectful and I requested to speak to the manager. He then told me ,” you will not and you can call him on Monday because I was not getting in.” I informed him that I will be in the car calling the supervisor. I spoke to the general manger and informed him of the situation. He then came out and spoke to the security officer. The security officer told the manager in a loud disrespectful manner that in no way I was not getting in. He informed the general manger that I cursed at him. I was in amazement because the security officer lied in that manner. In no way did I curse at him. I looked at the security officer square in his face and called him a liar. He in returned smiled. I informed the general manager that what happened to busy first and the customer is always right. The manager apologized and said that his security was not letting me in and for me to return another night. I apologized and stated that I will write this letter informing you of the incident and that not only will I never come back but I will informs others about your facility.

I went there last week with a group from work and we had a great time. Food was good, new bowling suite was great and the lazer tag was fun. A good time had by all. The place looks great compared to what it used to look like I wish them well.

I don't know when it was supposed to open, or about any fights there but I went there last weekend and had a great time. It was crowded but orderly. I think that this place will be the new hot spot. I'm having a party there for sure.

I was never a big fan of the old 64 lane house even when I was bowling for Notre Dame but have seen the construction as it's SLOWLY progressed and recently spoke with someone "in the know" that the late Feb or probably early March reopenning should be right on schedule with the amount of work that is left. Both me and the wife are looking forward to checking it out as it sounds like it's going to be a really nice Zone. Way less lanes, but much more going on.

Comment Date: 1/5/2012 Name: Anonymous
colonials website says that it will reopen next month but a friend of mine says it will reopen in march someone isnt getting their story straight who works there

Comment Date: 12/17/2011 Name: Anonymous
Gee whiz! What happened to the December 15th opening? I drove by last night and it still looked like a disaster area. Sheet rock exterior, scaffolding and a mess for a parking lot. Maybe they meant December of 2025 for the "grand reopening". What a joke this place is! And to think people are still eagerly waiting around for it to reopen! Sad...

Comment Date: 11/29/2011 Name: Anonymous
we all know the owner is a habitual liar and now the mayor and a county freeholder are sticking their necks out for the owner by going on television and going to the newspapers saying that colonial will be the next best thing and they probably havent been there in 30 years or so

Comment Date: 11/26/2011 Name: Anonymous
Don't hold your breath on this grand "re-opening". It's already been pushed back 3 times. Remember the May re-opening? Then October? Then November? Now it's December. See a pattern here... Not to mention this "renovation" was mentioned before anything was actually done for years and years. How long are you people gonna hold out for these liars to take your money? Do yourself a favor and go bowl somewhere else, or go throw your bowling ball in the piles of dirt which now sit where at one time the premier center in Mercer County was many years back. It won't be the same Colonial if and when it ever re-opens!

Comment Date: 11/17/2011 Name: Anonymous

HA! what a joke!!!! I know of a good mechanic that recently quit working there, said about half of the lanes dont even run anymore, as if a lane breaks they abandon it. This place smells like a thrift store!! Add to it the fact their hours are very limited and restricting. I don't care what they say- hopefully the league bowlers will STOP feeding in to the vicious cycle. Unless they show they've got the money, or if an unforseen miracle happens like Brunswick buying out the place (as if they'd even want it), NOTHING will change!!! Just a matter of time.....

Comment Date: 3/30/2011 Name: Anonymous
they are supposedly going to close the place down and remodel this summer for the 10th straight year

Comment Date: 11/16/2010 Name: Anonymous
it will be interesting to see what happenes to the bowling alley come spring time when league contracts are up for renewal

Comment Date: 11/7/2010 Name: WTF
Who is this place trying to kid? They have massive signs posted on all the doors saying 'NO OUTSIDE FOOD OR DRINK ALLOWED' yet when I went there tonight for Moonlight Bowling the employees are munching down on pizza delivered from up the street. At least hide the food if you're not going to follow the rules the bowlers have to follow. This place is full of double standards. All I can say, again, is WTF!

Comment Date: 11/7/2010 Name: seen this place go bad, really bad!!!
i have been around bowling alleys most of my life, i have never seen a bowling center such as colonial lanes go to hell just because of this new owner who is obviosly not willing to put any money into the place, colonial lanes has been open since the 40s i think, and in the past 5 yrs it went from a great place to bowl , shoot pool , have a few drinks and eat great food , NOW i wouldn't take my dog there !!! NO UPPER MONITORS! what the hell is that omg , next they will be handing you paper and the yellow pencils to keep score, but ooops you still need monitors! LOL, whats next, BRING YOUR OWN PINS??? any way there's so much wrong here that i could go on and on, but i won't, just go see for yourself. DIRT!!! used be when you were done bowling you would wash your hands, normal, now you need to bring your own hand sanitizer, towels and toilet paper, also don't forget your rubber booties because when it rains it pours (inside the building). thank god for the pro shop and luncheonette being privately owned, but without bowlers it will be difficult for that to continue. thanks for the memories i would have never believed this bowling center in a prime location could have ever been let go this way, how sad....the owner will have no choice but to demolish colonial lanes, he can only blame himself, how sad!!!

Colonial Lanes, the house that cried wolf! I am sick and tired of the yearly "we're gonna renovate this place" rhetoric that gets shoved down the league bowler's throats at contract time, only to find out that their idea of renovating is a coat of paint in some places and a few new trash bags. The owner is a habitual liar who has absolutely no respect for the people that spend money on a weekly basis in his establishment. The center is tired, should be taken to a desolate location and shot, put out of its misery. The staff has been cut to the absolute minimum, they can hardly keep up with the demands of the place and service the customers at the same time. And the demands of the place are many. Every time it rains you can't find a trash can because they get used to collect water from the multiple leaks in the roof. Disgusting! A few weeks ago there were 6 lanes in a row on the low side shut down with large trash buckets collecting the water. The Friday league had to be split and bowl around the deluge. The carpeting at the bar gets soaked when it rains, and you can hear the water leaking in the employee room. I never buy soda from their vending machines as the owner unplugs them at night to save money. I don't like my beverages running through multiple cycles of cold and hot, not good for the drinks, not good for me. I shouldn't buy a soda from a refrigerated vending machine, only to be told by the desk staff that if I'd like it cold I can go to the bar and get a glass of ice. The heating and cooling system is always set to manual ... its hot in the summer and cold in the winter. Nobody in their right mind would think you could turn on the A/C in a 64 lane (?) center in the afternoon and have it comfortable in a few hours for the customers. The owner of the house is financially short-sighted. He tries to save a dollar, and ends up not only increasing his maintenance costs, but loses many times that dollar in lost revenue from customers who don't return. The place does not care about league bowlers and concentrates their efforts on birthday parties and other bookings that only come one time. Back when Bruce Ripley ran the place, then Marty after him, Colonial was a fun, clean place to have a great time. Since the owner has been running the place himself it's been nothing but cheap, dirty, and you can't believe a word that's said to you. Hours constantly change, there's no rhyme or reason to them. They don't even treat their food service people well. They allow, and greatly encourage, people to order pizza and other food from off the premises when they have new owners in the luncheonette. I'm surprised they don't offer to purchase bowling balls for people off the internet and screw the guy in the pro shop too! The only ball that can effectively score at this run-down visage of a bowling center would be a wrecking ball. It's a shame, it could be the premier center in Mercer County. They could really put a hurting on Curtis, Hamilton and Papp's. (No one can touch Slocum's - Chip, you're the best!) Unfortunately, if anyone would like to sample the 'Colonial Experience' you'd better hurry, this place won't last long!

Given the obviously disheveled condition of this place and for an extended period of time, is it any wonder that the lanes aren't remodeled?? It's quite obvious they can't afford to do it. I heard thru the grapevine that though they have 64 lanes, only 58 are in service. If a lane breaks, they simply abandon it (again, just hearsay). Remember folks, talk is cheap!! I'm a bit skeptical of a proprietor suddenly declaring he will renovate right out of the blue when not only is it dirty, but the keypads on computers are falling apart, the ceiling tiles are all crooked and sagging, they put buckets on the lanes when it rains heavily, there are literally potholes in the floor behind computers ,etc... Also I've seen trash bags wrapped around the fan ducts on top of roof around back. GHETTO!!!! I advise ALL of you to stop wasting ur time/money here because in my eyes it's like beating a dead horse. Go to Curtis lanes instead!! At least their computers, graphics, and seating are more up to date. It may not be the best lit, and still has old wood lanes, and should be fixed up on outside . But it runs circles around Colonial AND hamilton.

Comment Date: 9/21/2010 Name: Anonymous
Thats what the owner does to bring leagues back for a year than come spring time the owner will promise to fix it up in the summer to get leagues to sing the contract to come back in the fall. Than he wont fix it up. League presidents shouldnt sign the contract in the spring because nothing will be different a year from now. The owner should never have put those pictures up

Comment Date: 9/21/2010 Name: Anonymous
the owner has been saying for the last 10 years that he was going to fix the place up and hasnt

Comment Date: 8/17/2010 Name: kid rock
where is the remodeling? did the owner lie to his bowlers, about remodeling, just so they would bowl another year. scam artist. clean this pig sty up employees, instead of standing around outside smoking.

they haven't even started working on the lanes that they were supposed to do this summer

Again, Colonial lanes is fine. though Mon nite i had a problem with a staff person being rude, and i left out of disgust instead of bowling, not wanting to ever come back . but then later reported it to management, who is taking care of problem.i thank them for that. cause i dont care how dirty or run down this place is, if the prices are reasonable and staff treats customers properly, thats half the battle!! with that said i hope to be back realllll soooooon!!! later thanks!!!! chris

Comment Date: 3/13/2010 Name: sk8ersbus1
Colonial lanes may be dirty and not the best kept but the great staff and amazing prices overshadow it. Out facing route 1, i think they should have an exit door near lane 64 (probably the old blocked off bar door) (kind of a weird setup) or make the bathroom hallway on the 1-32 side near lane 1 entrance also open to the 33-64 side. for an emergency exit, that is..... yes the computers are very outdated and score wrong often. I wish the approaches were kept a little cleaner, but i like that it has synthetic lanes. at least colonial doesnt have lanes that pucker up at the foul line (which will mess up your shot), pinsetters that take up to 20 seconds to refill in between frames due to only having 12 pins in the rack, crappy pins, and horrible rude staff that lets constant bogus regular AND personal cell phone calls interfere with customer service like at hamilton lanes. colonial may not be the nicest but thats ok- at least its reasonable so they have an excuse. Hamilton, however is ridiculously expensive (dont DARE get me started on how much of a disgraceful DUMP hamilton is!!!!!!!!!!) So Colonials actually pretty decent. Again, the staff is courteous. there is a 2 hour special for 12.95 per person with soda and 2 pc pizza. plus in the middle of my game i had a personal emergency come up and had to leave immediately, so they were kind enough to refund me the unused portion of the game, willingly. And in all the chaos, i forgot my ball but they kept it for me. God bless em for that!!!! I certainly hope and plan to be back soon. like curtis lanes i see lots of potential for colonial and realllllllly hooooooope this place does remodel soon, good luck with that!!!!! later

they are supposed to fix the place up this summer again.

I wondered what happened to those luncheonette ladies!! They were great!! The new owner is a nice guy but very (VERY) slow and the place has no ambiance. The guy who works the bar on week night is great. The alleys are acceptable.

Comment Date: 2/20/2009 Name: tourney bowler
was there over the weekend to bowl and lanes were terrible and if your going any time soon....bring your own toilet paper

Comment Date: 1/29/2009 Name: Anonymous
the lunchonett was sold to a nearby pizza place thats there now because the owner of the bowling alley wanted to raise the rent of the lady who owned the lunchonett to a prie that she couldnt afford and she sold it.

Comment Date: 1/24/2009 Name: Anonymous
Its a shame that the owner is such a butthead and doesn't realize that he is sitting on a gold mine. the perfect location could have unbeleivable income if he just knew how to operate the bussines. the league bowlers get nothing for their monies and you never know if its going to be like bowling outside when you get there due to no heat or the lanes will be like bowling out on route1. it to bad that it seems that the ownership seems to be heading for the GREAT CLOSURE......give by the end of the summer..OH by the way what was he thinking about getting rid of the girls in the lunchonett??

Comment Date: 11/7/2008 Name: Anonymous
colonial had a few of the best leagues in mercer county at one time besides the classic league the industrial league was there on friday nights.

Comment Date: 11/7/2008 Name: Anonymous
part of the problem also is that the owner is cheap and doesnt want to spend the money to fix the place up

Comment Date: 11/2/2008 Name: P.A.
I am no longer a league bowler at Colonial but unfortunately am forced to bowl in there certain tournaments. Its a shame this place has steadily declined throughout the recent years. It wasn't too long ago that Colonial had one of the best leagues in Mercer County (Colonial Classic on Wednesday Nights). From what I hear, the ownership will be doing a major renovation so there is a possibility that this place will bounce back.

If you as me Hamilton Lanes is trailer trash, not this place!!!

Comment Date: 5/6/2008 Name: Anonymous
its a shame when they need police and police dogs there on friday and saturday nights. it took a number of years and countless fights to have police there.

Comment Date: 11/6/2007 Name: lilly ostmeg
i think its okay and when you go there chose a not so crowed lane

Comment Date: 8/22/2007 Name: Nobel
This place is like a junk yard. It literally stinks from inside with junk equipment. The staff is disgusting and provide no service. They treat customers like shoes (don't care- beat em up).

Comment Date: 8/21/2007 Name: Anonymous
With leagues getting smaller its a wonder how the place is still open

Comment Date: 8/14/2007 Name: Anonymous
How many leagues go they need to loose before they fix the place up

Comment Date: 8/14/2007 Name: Anonymous
They need to fix up the place during the summer when it is slower.

Comment Date: 6/17/2007 Name: Anonymous
With prices this low, is it any wonder the place is a dive?? They are probably going out of business and are trying to wring every penny from the masses!

ok not good

Used to be the best bowling alley, but the managers got strict when they fired the security guard, so it's not the best hang out for teens anymore, but for strictly bowling, it's great!

Comment Date: 7/31/2006 Name: Amorrn
Very much a dive, but the prices are unbeatable (it costs like $1.25 a game on weekdays before 4:00). None of the equipment is broken, but the computers are outdated. The lanes (not the building) are well upkept. Some of the staff are trailer trash, but they don't try to screw you on prices. I rate it 4 out of 5 stars for the lanes and prices.
