Rude people! Old worn old equipment! Food was the worst!

Today for my birthday a few friends and I decided to go bowling at Olympus Hills. It was an unpleasant experience. It was not the first time I have had a bad experience here, and now I am assured that first time was not a fluke, but rather the “normal business” practice for this place. The man behind the counter was rude from the very moment I asked if we could get a lane; as we paid for our games he told us we had to be off the lanes by midnight, treating us as though we would somehow rob the place blind if we stayed a minute past. At first I thought the time limit was due to bowling leagues, but as midnight approached and groups of teenagers came in, it became clear this was not the case. As we left the bowling alley the black lights came on and “party” music began to play when there had been no music prior to. The place was still open and yet there was no invitation to stay or explanation as to why we and the other bowlers were so rudely told to leave. Unless this bowling alley is holding some sort of illegal rave, I don’t think it is necessary or wise to basically throw other paying customers out.

Never mind the fact that the head mechanic screws other people out of money by claiming he has "expertise" in areas in which he has no idea what he's talking about. He also claims he's able to do things he can't just to make a buck! Screw him!!

I suspect the negative comments here are someone's personal agenda against olympus hills. I have gone there many times with my family and have never had any problems. On the contrary, I think the prices are very fair and the workers invariably kind and polite, especially with my kids. My brother has downs syndrome and loves bowling; we almost always take him to olympus and they are so nice to him. Why anyone would prefer an overpriced circus like fat cats (aptly named) is beyond me.

I'm suprised by the negative comments. I have never had a problem with the staff or the establishment. Everytime we have gone in to bowl the staff has always been friendly and accomodating. The only criticism I would have is that OHBL should have weekly specials like they do at Bonwood. Give it a try and see for yourself.

This bowling alley s*cks. The desk staff were rude refused to honor a student discount their beer tasted watery and their food was awful when we had a problem with our lane the man at the counter was more interested in making out with a disgusting woman while leaning on the food prep table (no wonder the food s*cked) then fixing our issue go to bonwood or anywhere else

the balls r slimy the food tastes like rubber and the workers r ugly ...FAT CATS!!! is were its all at

Olympus hills is the worst bowling alley i have ever bowled at. period. spend your money elsewhere because its soo not worth the money to be able to wear their old shoes, stick your hands in their greasy bowling balls, etc. just don't waste your time and money. I WILL NEVER GO THERE EVER AGAIN. EVERR.

Comment Date: 8/23/2010 Name: ........
I love bowling here. its not crowded and over run with needy males and "prostitykes". The food is average, but if you want a good meal dont go out to eat a bowling alley, impress your date with dinner at a restaraunt before or after you bowl. the staff is friendly and welcoming to everyone. if you have a problem (as Any bowling place will eventually have) just ask for help, and it is immediate. so if your looking to pick up on teenbopers or sleezy guys then i would recomend fatcats or your nearest bar, but if you want a nice fun drama free night with your date, family or friends than olympus hills is a good spot.

After reading these hilarious comments, I decided to try Olympus Hills with an open mind and come leave an honest opinion to help influence someone else. I hadn't been to Olympus Hills in many years but it was the big hangout before Fat Cats. I've bowled there many times, but haven't been in 5 years or so. I couldn't believe that 4 games and 2 shoe rentals ended up costing $21. I don't remember bowling being that expensive. Our bowling experience started pretty casual, but after the first few frames, pins started falling down before I had even thrown my ball down the lane. We laughed about it at first because I'm a pretty crappy bowler and need all the extra pins I can get but after the 7th or so frame of having at least 1 or 2 pins down every time I went to bowl, I was starting to resent paying $21 for crappy equipment. Ceiling tiles are starting to fall down, the balls are so gross and greasy. I had black residue on my thumb after taking my fingers out of the ball holes. When we started to leave, I noticed the front desk guy was more occupied with the pinball machine then actually overseeing the center. The people next to us were having problems as well, their game cut off on the 7th frame for no reason and pinball guy took extra long to fix it. I didn't think Olympus Hills was worth the price and to be honest I probably won't be going back!

I am with Jaimie right before me. I have bowled at Olympus Hills Bowling Lanes since I moved to Utah 11 years ago and the people have ALWAYS been nice and the food has ALWAYS been great and the only problem if any is the fact that the lanes are always over oiled. At one point I was bowling here everyday of the week depending on what leagues I was in at any given point in time.

Wow people take a Happy Pill! Some of these comments are outrageaous. I have been going to Olympus Hills since i was a little kid and have never had a bad experience. Have you ever thought that maybe the reason you have a poor experiences is because of your own attitude. The staff are all very helpful and friendly. Steve is a great manager and is always willing to help. Steve has spent a lot of time and money renovating and making improvements and has been very succesful. To all of you who have made negative comments...take a look at yourselves before you decide to judge others. Everyone has a bad day so..IF YOU CAN'T SAY SOMETHING NICE, DON'T SAY ANYTHING AT ALL! :)

it seems that the personal at olympus spent a lot of time padding their rating. it funny but i have bowler here for 10 yrs. and the rating is a farce. i live close to here and my children go to skyline or i would bowl elsewhere.

Comment Date: 1/9/2009 Name: AVID BOWLER
i like the fact you like olympus because you think it is cheap! believe me you are getting what you pay for. please don't try to compare with newer centers, even though olympus has done a realitive good job of renovation, they are in a same class, lower. nice people, doing their job but again wrong comparisions!

Comment Date: 12/31/2008 Name: bowler
i think olympus hills is one of the best bowling centers and i think that before they fixed it up it wasn't that great but they have changed things around and the things like the high school bowler if you hate the lanes so much there why don't you just bowl at fatcats or some where else because i think olympus hills is cheap and nicer then other places.

olympus hills is the worse place ever. i bowl there for my high school and my jr travel league. when i was there for my high school league my ball got dented in the ball return, the lanes were not oiled and it seemed like they havent been oiled in a while. the lanes are cracked. i dont think they know how much money bowlers put into their balls and stuff. we dont spend this much money to throw our balls down a crappy lane for it to get all messed up. i went to go get food and they didnt wanna help me. the front desk lady was like the devil. i have to say there are better bowling alleys and olympus hills is on my not favorite list at all. i infact hate it more then any other lane ive ever bowled on. also when i was there for jr travel the lanes kept breaking down and they took forever to fix them. not cool!!!!!!!

There is not many places you can go anymore and have a really good time, Olympus is definately one of them! Great food, great music, great bowling and a staff that goes out of their way to make it a fun experience. If you haven't been here, you definately need to check it out!

Comment Date: 5/29/2008 Name: bowler
The lanes are crappy. The balls get stuck and pretty much anything that can go wrong will go wrong. The people are not very friendly.

Olympus Hills Bowling Lanes is my favorite place to bowl. The employees have always been friendly, helpful and fun,and the lanes are great to bowl on. Thanks, guys!

Comment Date: 4/1/2008 Name: Ruth
Olympus Hills Rocks!!! Everybody has a bad day...Overall the staff are very professional and have gone out of their way to make sure I leave happy. I love the atmosphere, the music and the food is the best in any center that I have been in! I read the complaints from anonymous folks and ex-employees and it makes me laugh....How is any center anywhere supposed to make improvements when the remarks are just made out of spite?!

Comment Date: 3/28/2008 Name: Anonymous
the front desk lady is very rude. i go threr all the tome and the lady is so rude now!

Comment Date: 3/21/2008 Name: Anonymous
Desk staff is usually very rude, one person in particular. The lanes are not well kept, they have big pits in them. I am not sure what it takes to be USBC certified, as the sticker says on the front door, but this center should be re-evaluated. Lane mechanics are often failing, pins dropping on pin set, balls not being returned and a lot of scoring errors, then the staff gets an attitude when you point it out to them. Used to be a pretty good place to go but not anymore.

Comment Date: 3/20/2008 Name: Anonymous
I was just in this center and it was so cool to use one of their new house balls and have new house shoes. Even the little touches like that make it more fun to go play. The people at the desk were very polite and helpful!

Comment Date: 3/14/2008 Name: Anonymous
I've bowled here for the last 8 or so years and the people skills here have gone down hill. The frount desk lady is the worst. Plus we always are haveing to ask for some mecanical problem to be fixed. You cant go more than 2 or 3 frames without them breaking down and they blame it on your equipment not yours. Overall these lanes s*ck and don't waist your money here.

Comment Date: 1/31/2008 Name: Kris Magnum
Nice people, Nice atmosphere. Everyone...Just have a Beer and Relax and get the stick out of you know where and sit down and chill!!

Comment Date: 12/30/2007 Name: Ex Employee
When I worked here this place was awesome, the desk person at the time was very friendly to everyone in every league, and went out of his way to not only help everyone, but to remember everyones name. Everyone seemed happy, and the leagues were big. Since I have left, and the desk man when I worked there left, and the head consessions women left, the place has gone down hill and fast. The equipment is one of the worst in the state, and easily the worst in the Salt Lake Valley. Guy, their mechanic is lazy, and never working, always up in the snack bar slacking off, and when the lanes have service calls (Which is way to frequent) he has to run all the way back there before beginning to fix it. They have hired a new "mechanic" a kid who looks like he is about 14 years old, and he acts like it as well, I had a simple service call last week in my league, something that is easily fixed (I know from experience) and some how he managed to break the machines even more. If you are looking for cheap bowling at a cheap center, this is for you. However, if you want to have a good time, with good equipment, well kept lanes, and nice staff. I would suggest you look elsewhere.

This bowling center has really disappointed me. The desk staff is terribly rude. The manager is terrible. It baffles me how someone making money can be so rude to the customers. The desk lady is the worst. I have never been so disappointed with the customer service provided and i would not recommend to anyone to spend their money there. The place is going downhill very quickly and i hope that the consequences of rude employees and unprofessional behavior teach steve a lesson.

Comment Date: 9/28/2007 Name: dissatisfied leaguer
9/27/07 was the worst---the equipment in these lanes is beyond bad and there has been $0 put back into this facility even though the price for the league went up this year. The owners just don't seem to care, and that's too bad because the league has some fantastic people on it. But the poor conditions ruin it---how fun is it to be calling the desk every other frame to fix a problem--especially when they "promised" improvements would be done over the summer--HAH! And all the comments here praising the place must be from the manager's and owner's family members because they just don't reflect the reality of a paying customer's experiences...

Comment Date: 9/12/2007 Name: Anonymous
I have bowled off and on at Olympus Hills for over 12 years and I love it there. The people that run the desk are always nice to me and the manager Steve Carlson is fabulous. He has helped me with tips to improve my game and has always been kind and ready to fix any problem that I have had. I don't know why anyone would say bad things about Olympus as it is a great place to bowl.

Comment Date: 5/19/2007 Name: Micah
I just started bowling at this establishment, and happened upon this website while looking up the address. I feel a need to make it clear that the negative comments about Olympus Hills and the personal attacks on the manager/owner Steve are absolutely incorrect and unfounded. I have just returned from bowling there and had an excellent experience in all regards. The facility was clean and well maintained. I met Steve and was very pleased with the service he provided. He offered assistance in helping to improve my scores and was very friendly. Under no circumstances should anyone let the negative comments left here dissuade them from bowling at Olympus Hills. I will definitely be going back there often.

I do not know what the people below are saying as it seams jibberish. I do know this center is GOING DOWN HILL FAST, and this is sad. I have bowled here for years and this is my last. Very bad manager,Mr.Carlson, bad food and poor conditions period. I hope things improve, it is close to my home and I would hate to see ,it close!

I have bowled in this bowling alley for more than 10years. This is my last. The desk help are very unfriendly, and to report it to Steve the so called manager, mechanic, is fruitless. He has absolutely no people skills!!!!The center it self is dirty, and to find house balls for our children is almost impossible. Just old left over balls. Like I said I and most of our Tuesday League are going else where next season. Good luck Olympus Lanes in the future, hopefully you will take heed and correct your problems. Evelyn, PLEASE COME BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!
